LEBANON, Penn. (February 12, 2021) - LebanonTurf, an industry-leading provider of innovative and high-performance plant nutrition for the golf and landscaping industries, has announced the winner of their annual “Dog of the Year” contest. After tallying the votes from this year’s Golf Industry Show, the winning dog is Floki, a 9-month-old border collie/mini poodle mix and the golf course dog at Scarboro Golf & Country Club in Toronto, Ontario.

Floki is the trusty companion of Lesley Thomas, who is in her 14th year as the club’s first assistant superintendent. Floki runs alongside the golf cart all day long, keeping all squirrels, rabbits and Canadian Geese off the turf, with great success. Thomas manages the turf health and keeping greens fast and firm, but she is also responsible for overseeing Scarboro’s Audubon International certification, pollinator gardens, and participation in the Monarchs in the Rough program.

With this victory, Floki wins a $3,000 donation to Thomas’s local GCSAA chapter, a $500 cash prize, and a $2,000 donation on her behalf to K9’s for Warriors. K9’s for Warriors works to empower service members to return to civilian life with dignity and independence by matching service canines with post-9/11 veterans.

“Our dog calendar is a fun tradition for our customers and friends in the industry, but it also gives back to great causes, “said Cynthia Spondello, Marketing Services Manager for LebanonTurf. “Although we weren’t able to see superintendents campaigning for their dogs on the show floor at GIS this year, we got a tremendous voting turnout, and a wonderful group of dogs as usual.”
